Kardium Globe Pulsed Field: Canada Funds Vancouver Build

The Kardium Globe pulsed field system has secured up to C$31.25m ($22.5m) from the Government of Canada. The money will support scale-up in British Columbia. It comes through the Strategic Response Fund.

This tranche feeds a larger C$125m project. That project aims to lift output of Kardium's cardiac mapping and ablation device. Canada Industry Minister and Quebec Regions Canada Economic Development Minister Mélanie Joly announced the deal.

The plan also funds a major expansion of Kardium's cleanroom facility in Vancouver. The build-out is meant to bolster Kardium's infrastructure. It also aims to enable growth. The company said the expansion will scale up output of the Kardium Globe pulsed field system. Key IP, know-how, and jobs will stay in Canada.

What the Kardium Globe pulsed field system does

The Kardium Globe pulsed field system targets atrial fibrillation. It combines high-density mapping with pulsed field ablation. Both functions run in one catheter.

The system streams real-time data to the operator. That data helps doctors with three tasks. First, catheter positioning. Second, tissue contact check. Third, delivery of precise treatment.

Health Canada approved the device in July 2026. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it earlier, in August 2025.

Cleanroom expansion in Vancouver

Vancouver hosts Kardium's cleanroom facility. The expansion is the operational backbone of the C$125m plan.

A larger cleanroom means more Globe systems per quarter. It also lets Kardium serve more electrophysiology (EP) labs at once.

Joly on Canadian medical device manufacturing

Joly framed the deal around Canadian strength in advanced manufacturing.

Joly said: "British Columbia is emerging as a global hub for medical innovation, home to companies like Kardium that are developing new technologies with the potential to improve lives around the world."

Joly added: "By supporting Kardium's expansion, the Government of Canada is strengthening Canada's advanced manufacturing capacity, creating high-value jobs, and ensuring British Columbia remains at the forefront of innovation in the medical sector."

Chaplin on Kardium's growth path

Kardium CEO Kevin Chaplin welcomed the federal funding as a scale-up step.

Chaplin said: "Kardium is proud to be developing and manufacturing our innovative medical technology here in British Columbia."

Chaplin added: "The Government of Canada's funding is an important step in our continued growth and will help us expand our manufacturing capabilities as we bring our technology to more physicians and patients around the world."

Pivotal trial context for the Kardium Globe pulsed field system

Earlier this year, Kardium shared further results from the Globe system's pivotal trial. The data showed success in pulmonary vein isolation. It also showed success in treating paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

For electrophysiology teams, cardiac catheterisation labs, and hospital procurement, the Kardium Globe pulsed field system is now cleared on both sides of the border.
